Three perfect ways to spend a sunny September day in and near Morinville

As of today, September 13, 2025, we are looking forward to another week of sunny weather with temperatures in the mid-20s — a gift in our lovely-but-volatile (weather-wise) region just north of North America’s most northerly major city!

I know you’re not here to read a fluffy intro; you’re looking for something to do, right now, today … so here are three ideas for you:

  1. Trek through Boisvert's Greenwoods

They say time in the forest is a balm for your mental health. If that's true, then an hour or two at Boisvert’s Greenwoods will definitely soothe your soul.

The loop trail here is maintained by the Edmonton Area Land Trust and is flat but a bit rustic (bumpy with tree roots). For the 40 minutes or so it takes you to walk the whole thing, you are surrounded by forest and completely enveloped in nature.

One of the best experiences on this trail is approaching the pond, where the frog song is almost deafening until you cross a certain threshold and then … bam ... instant and complete silence. So cool.

  1. Hit the splash park, go for ice cream

Morinville Splash Park with fountains and loops sits in front of a yellow and white apartment building, blue sky above, grassy area around.

This is the last weekend for the Morinville Splash Park, located the Ray McDonald Sports Centre grounds where you can also play basketball, outdoor volleyball, or just soak up the sun in a grassy field. There's also an adorable dry playground here if you have little ones who prefer to not get wet. And if you go on Sunday, you'll also have the Morinville Farmers Market happening on the street next to you.

Drop by Sal’s Famous first (almost right in front) to check out their extensive milkshake menu or take a walk through town all the way to the Ice Hut and choose an ice cream cone from a ton of flavours.

  1. Pick apples at Prairie Gardens & Adventure Farm

Nothing says fall like apples and pumpkins and that’s what you’ll find at Prairie Gardens & Adventure Farm – a 35 acre working farm with all kinds of heirloom and specialty vegetables. The farm is full of fun things to see, not just an apple orchard and pumpkin patch, but an old west 'town' area to farm animals to a corn maze and much more. It's always a fun day.

Nothing says fall like apples and pumpkins — and Prairie Gardens delivers both in spades. This 35-acre working farm is bursting with heirloom and specialty vegetables, and all the autumn magic you need: apple orchard, pumpkin patch, corn maze, farm animals, and even an old west–style “town” to explore. Prairie Gardens is a roughly 15 minute drive from town, near Bon Accord.
