'Tis the season for giving: ways to make Christmas brighter for all

It’s that time of year when Morinville’s collective big heart is asked to show up. Local groups are working to make sure every household in our community has a cheery holiday season—and with more families feeling the pinch this year, even a little help can make a big difference. So if you’re able, consider pitching in; here are some ways you can help:


Midstream Support Society


Help create Christmas cheer for Morinville and area families by supporting the Midstream Society’s Christmas Hamper program.


Santa Store Fundraiser – November 22


It’s just a few days away, but there’s still time to Drop off a gift card or an item for the Santa Store auction at iCandy Optical, and/or grab your event tickets and go have a fun night out for a great cause!

Fill the Vault Toy Collection


Drop off a new toy or game at Servus Credit Union by December 14 to help “Fill the Vault” with gifts to go along with the food hampers.


Morinville Food Bank


As you might expect, the Morinville Food Bank is gearing up for a busy season. You can buy a cookie at the Morinville Tim Hortons for Smile Cookie Week starting November 17 — a sweet way to help out — or leave a food or cash donation at the Morinville Christmas Market on November 23.

Fill-A-Bus for the Food Bank – November 29


Look for the bus in the parking lot of the Morinville Community Cultural Centre during the Lite Up the Nite Festival


Morinville Adopt-A-Family Foundation


As the name implies, this group ‘adopts’ families who are struggling at Christmas time, providing a hamper that includes Christmas dinner supplies, extra groceries for the pantry, and gifts for the whole family.


3rd Annual Steak Night and Silent Auction – November 29


Go eat, drink, and be merry while raising funds for this amazing support for local families. Auction items are still needed; drop them off before the 29th at Coach’s Corner Bar & Grill.


Can’t make it out that night? You can still help out with the:


Annual Diapers & Wipes Drive


On till December 5. Drop-off locations: Panchita’s, Skinsational, B League Sports, Fusion Thrift Shop, or Movement Dance Studio.


Town of Morinville Giving Tree


Be a Secret Santa and share some holiday magic. Pick up an envelope with gift suggestions for an anonymous neighbour at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre (MCCC). Purchase an item from the list, wrap it, and return it to the MCCC by December 12 to make someone’s Christmas a little merrier.
